With Breast Augmentation, above or below the muscle? Cosmetic Surgery Bradenton FL

Another very common question I get is, should I go above the muscle or below the muscle? And all over the internet, you'll see breast augmentation above the muscle, below the muscle. Which is better; which isn't. There are a couple of things about that. There's some things with, with scarring and potential complications. There's also some things about esthetics that need to be discussed when that question comes up. The thing about going above the muscle is you will immediately see a much more natural appearance to the breast because there's no irregular contours that can be associated, especially if you're a weight lifter or if you flex your muscles if it's above the muscle. However, going above the muscle does, unfortunately, carry a slightly higher risk of what's called capsular contraction. Capsular contraction is just basically some scar tissue that forms around our implant. It's perfectly normal. Everyone has it. Anyone that has an implant has a capsule. It's just, if you can imagine, just, just a slight, very, very thin film that forms around the implant when it's inside our body. There are slightly higher rates of thicker capsules in above-the-muscle implants. Now, below-the-muscle implants, which, by the way is the usual way that I place implants unless a patient specifically asks me to go above, I find that by going below the muscle, that it allows me to maintain still the same symmetry and beauty that you'd see with any implant placed, but it gives a little bit of added extra protection to the implant. Insomuch that if you're very, very thin, that you won't be able to see the outline of the implant if it's placed under the muscle most of the time. But also, that little bit of added protection actually leads to a slightly lower capsular contraction rate and capsule being the scar that forms around the implant, itself. So, because of that, I personally feel that it's a superior way to place an implant in terms of long-term prognosis, is under the muscle. I like to do that and if my patients don't object to that, that's usually the way that I place the implants.

I Feel Better About Myself after Breast Augmentation - Bradenton FL

After breast feeding, I just felt really insecure. Like I said, I wouldn't go to the beach. I wouldn't wear hardly-- I would wear, everything would be to my neck. I wouldn't wear any low cut tops. Nothing. I felt like a 12-year old, you know? I felt like I had nothing. I have a 16-year-old sister, and I think she was more of a woman than I was. I just felt so not womanly. Even after having a baby, you know? It was just really upsetting. Depressing.

I went online. I didn't look at anybody in Port Charlotte just because I didn't want to go anywhere in Port Charlotte. I looked up Sarasota and Fort Myers. First, I did the research as far as pros and cons of breast implants. I looked up photographs of them. I looked up what the procedure was like and the recovery time because of my son. I knew I'd have to have somebody to watch him. I looked up all that stuff first, as far as what it would be like. I listened to other testimonials online. I just did a lot of research about the whole procedure and the recovery, and then I looked into doctors. I looked up Sarasota. I had two consultations in Sarasota, and Doctor Sessa was my first one; it was for the same day. I came to Doctor Sessa, and I brought my mom with me. We just liked him from the first time we talked to him.

He was comforting. He was professional. You just felt very comfortable in front of him, and my mom said the same thing. So, I decided to just cancel my other appointment. I went outside, and I just cancelled right here. I talked to my dad. I called him from the office, and I talked to my mom about it, and we just booked the surgery that day. We didn't even go home and talk about it. We just booked it right there and then. I just knew that he was the one that I wanted to do it. He was comforting, he was awesome, so I just did it.

I went to the beach about a week after my surgery. I go out now with my friends. I ask them to go out. I love going out. I bought new clothes. I have more confidence in myself now, a lot more confidence than I had before as far as going anywhere. I just like to go out. I like to wear whatever now. I can carry whatever I want and feel comfortable in it.

That was one of the main things: as long as I feel comfortable. I have a boyfriend. So with him, I feel a lot better as well. I just feel like maybe he looks at me more now than anybody else, which I didn't before. I just love it.

I would recommend Doctor Sessa to anybody. Anybody who asks me about my surgery, anyone who's interested in asking me about it, I would recommend him. I think he's a great man. He's a great surgeon. I'm very happy with my results. I'm more comfortable about myself. I feel so much better about myself because of him. Anybody who's asked me, my friends have asked me, I've recommended him. They've gone to his website already. He's just a great man. I mean, he makes you feel so comfortable with yourself. Even before your surgery, he makes you feel comfortable, which is what I think you need even in order to, you know, have a consultation. You want someone that's going to make you feel comfortable with yourself, and he does.

Yep. I would definitely recommend him to anybody.

Customer satisfaction with My Breast Augmentation - Bradenton FL

One of the greatest things that I love about breast augmentation is the, the satisfaction. Breast augmentation carries the highest satisfaction rate in cosmetic surgery out of all the procedures that we perform. The great thing about that is seeing peoples' eyes when they come out of surgery. And the first thing that they do is they lift up the sheets and they look down and they say, "My gosh, this is awesome. I can't believe I waited this long to do this, and I'm so happy." And that's wonderful. You know, that makes me feel like I'm doing the right thing. I am coming to work, and I love my job. I love doing this type of surgery. It's those little things that you see that people -- I'm really helping somebody. Deep down, those are the things that give us the greatest satisfaction in our work. That's the real true test of being successful is how you treat others and how others feel after you've treated them. So, I often get e-mails from my patients where they are on beaches or on boats and they are in their bikinis and they say, thanks, Doc, it's wonderful. And you see them when they come in for their post-op periods, and it's just a complete transformation. It's just so great to see.

Breast Surgery Melbourne Fl - I was at the beach 24 hours after my

When I first realized I was going to get the breast augmentation, I did extensive research on the internet looking for different doctors. I visited from Orlando to Venice, going to a total of 13 different plastic surgeons before I picked Doctor Sessa. I did lots of research on exactly what procedure I wanted to use, what kind of implant I was going to use. And then, when I finally got to Doctor Sessa, he was totally comfortable with everything I had researched. Just reinforced my plans and everything was perfect.

The other 12 doctors I met, the atmosphere of the office wasn't as friendly. I didn't feel as comfortable. When you're having surgery, you want to feel super comfortable with the whole staff, so I really could just tell 100% right when I walked in that Doctor Sessa was the one. Just his personality is very kind of bubbly and soft, like I like. It wasn't just you felt like you were another number, like, oh, it's just another patient. You actually felt like you were special to him, and he really cared about you, and he didn't just want your money. He wanted to get to know you and do a really good job and make sure that you were 100% happy. So, I told him I wanted a little bit more natural, which I'm really, really happy with, because I didn't really want them, like, all up in my chin. I wanted them to, you know, go very relaxed. And that's the look I wanted. And sometimes with new friends, they don't even believe me that I have them done. I have to literally show them the tiny scar that you can barely see anyway for them to actually even believe that I got them done, because they feel so real.

They look so real. Even my boyfriend, who I met about 3 months after I got them done, didn't believe me that they were fake. So, that was my goal. So, I'm very happy with that. Well, there's not really much to talk about with the recovery because there wasn't a whole lot of recovering. I think 24-hours later, I was already on the beach laying out in a bathing suit. My recovery was definitely really, really quick. They, I guess, give you shots while you're in surgery to numb you is what I was told. And I had no pain, no bruises at all. I was back to work. I did it during the Fourth of July break because my work is closed, so I would have a week off, but I definitely could've went back to work within two or three days easy. It was a very easy recovery. My results are absolutely perfect. Like most women, you always have one breast that's a little bit bigger than the other. So, that was one of the things I wanted to take care of, which is very slight. And so, I was definitely worried to see if, after the swelling went down, they were perfect, and they were absolutely perfect. Super soft feeling, natural. They sat exactly where I wanted them to sit. The scar is non-existent at all. So, I'm definitely very happy with the results. I've recommended him lots of times. I have friends that have come here right after me that have got the same procedure done and other procedures. I definitely recommend him 100%. He's everything that you could ever ask for in a plastic surgeon. And I definitely support the surgery in general, but I definitely try to motivate my friends to come here to at least get a consultation first, because I know that they will love him.

Art of Cosmetic Breast Surgery - Bradenton FL

I think that there's a real art to doing good breast augmentation. I think if you start with a good eye for symmetry and a real love for a woman's body and her natural curves, I think that you could be very, very good at breast augmentation. I really love doing breast augmentations for that reason. I'm very detail oriented, and I'm very, very meticulous in making sure that all the curves are proper, that when I'm taking measurements before the surgery, that I know that I've chosen the right implant for you, that we're not choosing implants that are too big, that are going to really fit your figure. You know, I always take measurements during our consultation. And the reason why I do that is because I truly believe that there are implants that are too small for people and implants that are just too big for people. And one of the most common questions I have is, Doc, I want to look natural, and I want to look natural in appearance. That really helps me pick an implant size. But the biggest thing about me and my patient is that you're actually the one choosing your implant. When patients come to my office, you'll be able to try on implants, and we'll make a decision together. After taking measurements of your anatomy, we'll come to a conclusion and say, okay, if you want a natural-appearing breast augmentation, these are the implants that we should choose from. And once we do that, we can look at their shape, look at their hips, how wide their chest is. All of those things I take into account because they are all very, very important. It's not just that I love doing these things, it's that I love making the puzzle sort of all fit together. That's what gives me the greatest satisfaction is seeing somebody afterwards and knowing that we've chosen the perfect implant for you and that my patient says-- one of the biggest complaints with breast augmentation is that, Doc, you know, I wish I went bigger. And very few of my patients say that because they are the ones choosing their own implants. And not only that, they get to sort of put them on, strut them around. I even let them take the implants home for the night if they want to show their boyfriend or husband or whatever the case may be. Their partner. But you know, in choosing the implant for themselves, they're able to come to the conclusion that, you know what? This is going to look great on me, and that really helps me. Because, yes, there's a big artistic part of this and knowing a woman's curves and knowing how wide her hips are, how wide her chest is. Are these implants going to fit? Are they going to look too wide? Are they going to look too close? You know, all of these things are very, very important. There's a lot to seeing a perfect breast augmentation. There's a lot to it. It's not just you take an implant and put it into the position. There's a lot of symmetry involved. If the doctor does not have a good eye for symmetry, then you're not going to be able to get a good result, and I pride myself on knowing that I have a great sense of symmetry and a sense of balance.

Cosmetic Surgery Question Statement - My Recovery Was Really Good

As soon as I met Doctor Sessa, I knew I wanted him to do my surgery. I felt very comfortable in front of him, which is not easy for me to feel comfortable in front of somebody like that, but I did. He made me feel comfortable. His whole staff made me feel comfortable. He was very caring. I wasn't nervous in front of him. He made me sure that I wanted to get the procedure done. Once I met him, I knew I was going to book my surgery with him. I knew I was going to get it done.

He gave me my confidence back. Even after the procedure, even if I had a question, I knew I could call him, and he'd be here. I mean, I called one Saturday, and he was here to answer my question, which was great. Because you know, after the procedure, if you're nervous about something or you don't feel like something's right, he was there, and he answered it, and he made me feel better. He's just an awesome man. He was an awesome surgeon. He gave me back everything I wanted, and he made me feel comfortable. He was just awesome.

The recovery after my breast augmentation was actually really good. They told me to expect them, my breasts, to be really high. Don't be scared if they are swollen. They said, it's not-- the results are not going to be what they're going to be in a couple weeks, they said, so don't be freaked out. Don't get upset.

I had an Ace bandage on which I wore and which I had to come back the next day to get removed, as well as a sports bra. I had to keep the sports bra on for two weeks, and they told me that they would still be swollen even after two weeks. And of course, they're going to sit up high, so they're not going to be exactly what you expect them to be. But I loved them right from the day after. I was happy with them. Just because, you know, I had them. So, I was just happy.

I came back the next day. I got my Ace bandage off, and he took a look at them. And I was expecting a lot more pain. I felt, um, really tight. That basically was my pain, just a lot of tightness. Heaviness on my chest was another thing, but it all went away within 3 days. I was back to normal. I came back maybe a week later, and she told me that everything was going well. I was in no more pain. I still felt a little tight, which she said you'll still feel for a while because they did have to stretch out the skin. He said that's totally normal. Other than that, my recovery was really good. I hardly had any pain, just tightness. And that's about it.

I'm so much more comfortable with myself. I feel so much more like a woman than I did before. I just-- I love it. It's absolutely great.

Breast Augmentation - Customer Satisfaction 2 - Bradenton

The wonderful thing about breast augmentation is that it carries the highest satisfaction rate in all the cosmetic procedures that we do. That makes me happy. Because happy patients, happy surgeon. So, the thing that's so great about it is that it's instant. Instantaneous. They come into surgery, after they've chosen these implants and they've tried them on and gosh, I can't wait. I can't wait to get these, to get this over with and get this done because I just so excited. And then all of a sudden, in the recovery room, the first thing they do is lift the sheets up and look down and they're like, wow, I'm a totally new woman. And I've seen women transformed. I've seen women cry after they've had it. Whether they may have had some sort of asymmetry or some sort of an imbalance, and after making them balanced again, making them whole again after breast augmentation, they just love it. And that really is such a wonderful moment for me and that, gosh, I've chosen the right profession. Because this is just a wonderful thing to see. The transformations are amazing. Not so much in terms of physical prowess, but the transformations of how people see themselves. Unfortunately in our society, we base a lot of how we perceive others by their bosom, and breast augmentation has become very, very popular over the last 10, 15 years. It's received some bad press, unfortunately, which was all disproven, and gel implants are back on the market, and they're able to be used for primary augmentations again. However, created a little bit of a scare there for a little while. But all that has been unproven, and it's all sort of in the way side. But, the wonderful thing about seeing patients, and they're able to choose silicone or saline. Now, there's actually options out there. They can choose saline; they can choose silicone. They try them on. And there's just this wonderful feeling of empowerment for these women. Where they say, gosh, you know, I could choose one or the other. I could choose the size? You're not going to do it all for me? That's wonderful. I mean, that's 90% is their decision; 10% is my work. And together, we have 100% result. And the thing that I pride myself on is making sure that my patients are happy. If there's any inconsistencies, I'm going to follow them from start to finish, and we'll get through everything together. But I could tell you that the thing that's so great is seeing them come out of recovery room and seeing how happy they are and the feeling of elation that, gosh, you know, I've done it; I finally did it. I'm so glad that I did it, and I can't wait to go to the beach and try on a t-shirt or try on a bikini. And you know, all my patients send me pictures of them at the beach and say, thanks, Doc, or they send me e-mails. "Couldn't have done this without you, Doc." And those are all really, really neat things to see.

Silicone or Saline? Cosmetic Surgery and What's Best!

One of the most common questions I get during consultation is, or not even in consultation, sometimes on the street or out at a restaurant is what's best? Saline best? Silicone best? All these are really good questions. The way that I like to answer that question is, you really have to feel them. That's part of the reason why during my consultation. I let my patients feel them. They grab them, they squeeze the implants, they try them on. Not only for the size, but the texture. The texture of a silicone implant, a gel implant, is very different than what a saline implant feels like. Now, does that mean it's going to feel completely different when it's underneath, in your body? Not necessarily. Believe it or not, there's not a whole lot of difference. Silicone, however, does edge it out. I think silicone, and my patients will agree, silicone has a much more natural feel, and it looks more natural. Saline, on the other hand, is a little bit more tense and because it's essentially a balloon that's filled up. However, in 99% of patients, it's so difficult to tell the difference between saline versus silicone. So, it really becomes a choice for the patient. I can lead them down the road, but I will never make the decision for them. That decision is for them and them alone because it's their body, and if they want silicone, I think it's perfectly safe, perfectly natural and it's a wonderful choice. If they want saline, I think it as perfectly safe, perfectly natural, and it's a wonderful choice. So that's something-- I really allow my patients to make that decision.

Cosmetic Surgery and Breast Augmentation Sarasota Florida - Incredible Self-Esteem Enhancer

I was interested in doing a breast augmentation when I was 18 years old. Like, getting out of high school. Everybody else was developed except for me. And, like, almost everyone was doing it, also. So I told my mom about it and she told me that I should wait, like, maybe I'm going to take a little longer to develop. So -- but I was still looking up doctors, especially here since I live closer, it would be more convenient. But I also started looking in Miami, Tampa. My dad suggested California because of that show Doctor 90210, like that was -- supposedly they're really good surgeons. And years went by, I focused more on school and then now at 23, I came across Doctor Sessa's website and I saw his pictures and it looked like he did really good work. I read his bio and I was -- also saw that he did ABC news like interviews on ABC news and I just thought that that was really -- he had really good credentials, so I made a phone call. Like he introduced himself to me and to my mother. He spoke to both of us. He was looking at me in the eye, like he talked about every single topic. I just felt like he knew exactly what he was doing and that he could give me exactly what I was looking for.

Cosmetic Surgeons - Breast Augmentation - Bradenton Florida - "I felt very comfortable"

I'm originally from upstate New York and from an area where we wear lots of clothing and layers because it's very cold probably eight months out of the year. But in that time when I was living in upstate New York, I was always a little self-conscious about my chest and that it was small. But because we weren't exposing yourself many months out of the year, it was something that I could easily avoid. Two years ago, I moved to Sarasota, Florida, and I'm boating all the time, wearing bikinis, and on the beach, and it's a much more fun lifestyle. But I was always self-conscious in going out with friends and going to clubs and going to the beach because of my chest size is always so much smaller, and I'm constantly looking around and comparing myself to the other girls. So, since moving to Florida, I was really self-conscious about my chest size and had given a lot of thought to breast augmentation. And about maybe six months ago, I started researching the other surgeons in the area.

I wanted to stay local in Sarasota and have my procedure done in the city because I didn't want to have to travel all the way to Tampa or to the east coast of Florida if any complications arose. I wanted to make sure I was home in my comfort zone. And then I did a lot of research on the internet and came across Doctor Sessa and had a consultation with him and Chris. That consultation lasted probably close to two hours, and they really made me feel extremely comfortable in my decision, and they spent a long time just trying to figure out what size that I should be. And I think that is every girl's biggest concern; they don't want to be too big, they don't want to be too small because what was the point of the surgery? That was always my biggest stress. And I had visited approximately four other offices and no doctor's office had ever given me that much time in an initial consultation. No one had worked with me at length that Doctor Sessa had over the size and the procedure and all my questions and concerns. I felt extremely comfortable working with him and his staff. And it was a very easy decision to make at that point. I was comfortable in who I was working with and I think I signed up for the surgery two weeks after that initial consultation. I was that comfortable with his office.

What I also liked the most about Doctor Sessa's office was that the surgery would occur right here at the office. They have their own operation room. And I did not like the fact of going to a hospital to have the procedure done. That made me really nervous. I had never had any operations previous. So, I really liked the fact that you're in a small surgery center, right here in the office. I had my surgery November 2nd in the morning, and I had never had surgery before, so I was extremely nervous about the feelings I would be going through and the whole experience. Never been under anesthesia before. I just never had been that vulnerable in my life, so I was very nervous going into the surgery. But as soon as I came to the office and I sat down with the anesthesiologist and the other nurses, I was put at ease immediately. They're just such wonderful people. I still think about my experience having the surgery and the nurses, I'm just always touched by how kind and compassionate they were to me through the whole experience.

Cosmetic Surgery and Breast Implants - Bradenton FL, Should I have Saline or Silicone Implants

Most of my patients come in, and one of their biggest questions is should I have saline? Should I have silicone? However, with the age of the internet, most women that are looking at getting breast implants already have read about it. They understand the pros and the cons of silicone versus saline. A lot of my patients choose saline, number one, because financially, it's cheaper. But number two, because they like the fact that it's filled with saltwater. This is an example of one of these implants, and you could see that you're not gonna have all bubbles inside of it. These implants are devoid of bubbles when they're filled, so you're not going to hear, like I just drank a big glass of water, and you're going to hear blub, blub, blub in your stomach. You're not going to hear that. But saline is still very, very natural, and I tell my patients it's a great choice. Whether you're looking at saline versus silicone, saline is still an excellent choice, and it's very, very safe. The way that I place my implants, I usually place them underneath the muscle. And the one thing that we do have to watch out for, though, and very, very thin people, sometimes you can see the outline of these implants. And we really want to try to avoid that. So, one of the things that we could do to protect that and protect against things like rippling, like here, you could barely see some rippling here on the sides. We want to avoid that, because that really tells everybody, these are fake. We want-- I pride myself in doing very natural-appearing implants, and most of my patients come to me because of that. Because they say, Doctor Sessa, your patients look really natural. One of the things that I really abide by is, you really have to overfill these implants slightly. So, let's say you're looking at a 375cc implant that you tried on that you really like the look of.

So, more than likely, we'll probably fit you with like a 330cc implant. And then we overfill it, so if we give you a 330cc implant, and let's say you look at this implant, it's sort of flacid a little bit. What we want to do is to make sure that we don't have any of these ripples. We overfill it, so if we push it out a little bit and overfill it, you could see that those ripples just disappear. And that's what we really want to do. We want to overfill it a little bit, stretch the casing of the implant a little bit. This way, those ripples will just disappear, and it will be nice and smooth at the edge. Saline initially, may feel slightly more tense than silicone. But as time goes on and the skin stretches and acclimates to the new size, it feels very, very natural. And most of my patients, they love it.

One of the first things that happens when you come in for your consultation is, I take measurements, because everyone is different. And the implants that you're gonna choose, this isn't one size fits all. There's varying different sizes of implants. Different shapes in both width and height, projection, there's lots of different things that really work, and that's sort of the art in choosing an implant. There's not just, I want larger breasts, so you come on in, and we you know put in the generic implant. So, the first thing that we do is, I take measurements. Of course, we go over your history, make sure that you're healthy for this procedure. I usually make the recommendation of getting a mammogram if you've never had one. It's just a good rule of thumb in terms of getting implants and moving forward. But once we get past all those small little hurdles, and we take the measurements, one of the greatest things that I do is, I take measurements of your width. The width of your breast.

Now, everyone's breast width is different, and that's why there are different sizes. So, once I take measurements of where your nipple is situated and the width of your breast, once I do those two things, then I will make some sort of general recommendations. I'll ask you what size you are now, what cup size you are now and what cup size would you like to go to. You want to look busty or do you want to look natural? Are you athletic? There's lots of different things and reasons behind choosing an implant. It's not just, I want to be larger. Because you will be larger. A breast implant will make your whole breast larger in all dimensions. But most women nowadays want to look natural. And there's a lot of choices to be had. This is an example of a 300cc implant. Okay. This is a high-profile implant. There's different types of implants that are, it's very important to choose.

I particularly like the high-profile implant because if you look at it from the side, you could see that it's sort of cone shaped. And this is gonna give you the most amount of projection with the smallest implant. And here's another example. This is a 375cc high profile implant, and this implant, if you put these side by side, you could see that the projection isn't gonna be very different. However, this 375cc implant is slightly wider. Then we have another type of implant, this is, again, this is 375. And these are the pair of implants.

This is a saline type implant, and this is considered to be sort of a hybrid of an implant. This is a hybrid between a very flat implant, which would be a moderate-shaped implant, versus something along this line, which is a high-profile implant. Now, when you look at them side to side, you can see the difference. This is a lot wider, and it's also a lot less projection. This is smaller in terms of width, but it has more projection.

So, all of these implants really, I try to fit to your anatomy. So, if you're more narrow chested, you're gonna want to use a more narrow implant, which would be something like this high-profile implant. So, we use a narrow implant but it gives you the most amount of projection for a narrow implant versus if you're very wide-chested person, you can fit a very wide implant and still look very natural. That's sort of the art behind choosing the proper implant for you.

Saline versus silicone is part of the picture, but it's really how wide of an implant can your body fit and still look natural. If you measure, in terms of your breast width measures out to be about 11 centimeters, which is about average. Let's say that you measure out to be 11 centimeters, and I choose an implant that is 14 centimeters in diameter for you. Obviously, your implant is gonna look probably artificial because not only will you have a lot of projection, but you'll have a lot of width, and the width is what gives you that artificial appearance in terms of how it's falling off the side of your chest and going out towards your arm pit.

Now, there's a certain amount of that that looks very, very nice. You want to have a nice side silhouette in terms of breast augmentation. However, there's a very slight line where you can go a little bit too far. And that's really the art in cosmetic breast enhancement is that you want to really find a size for a woman that really fits her.

So, I really feel that if you want to look natural, there's gonna be about three different, maybe four different sizes that you should really choose from, and they're gonna be pretty close in size. They're not gonna be 500cc implants, a 300, and a 200. They're gonna be within about 100ccs of each other. So, visually, post-operatively, there's not going to be a whole lot of difference, but I guarantee you that you will be happy with the result.

So, back in the late '90s, they started some literature started to come out which created quite a scare amongst women that already had silicone implants and people prospectively who were looking to get silicone. There was actually a moratorium on them. You couldn't use them. The federal government wanted to look into it a lot further. All of this was disproven. And back in about 2007, the FDA came out and said none of this was actually proven; there's no association between silicone implants and any auto-immune or any issues that were previously being associated with it. And that gave a lot of freedom back to women that are looking at implants, because the only choice they had was for saline. But for some people, silicone is really what they really want. I mean, it's more natural appearing. In thin people, it's really less chance of rippling. I think personally, it looks more natural and most of my patients love it. The people that do have it, I've never had one person come back and say, I wish I went with saline. Usually, it's the other way around. Usually, I wish I had gotten the silicone. But either one, I think that they're both great products, and it carries a very, very high satisfaction rate.

So, a lot of my patients during the consultation, will ask which one should I choose, saline versus silicone? And I really like the use of silicone in terms of post-operative results. I usually give my patients, absolutely, I give them the pros; I give them the cons. But it's really up to them as to where they want to go.

This is an example of a saline-- I'm sorry a silicone implant. And the thing that's really interesting about silicone, I always show this to my patients, is some people may have heard of something called rippling. Rippling, if you look at the edge of this implant here, you'll see that there's very, very little, if any, rippling. Now what rippling is, let me show it to you on a saline implant. You could really see it there. So, if you look at the edge of this implant here, you could see that's rippling. And very thin girls or very thin people, especially in the upper part or on the sides or even in the middle, there's a little bit less skin and musculature to cover the implant. So, because of that, you really see the outline of the implant.

A lot of girls are really worried about that, and that's one of the main reasons why I tell them I think silicone is a better choice. It does cost a little bit extra, but in terms of long-term results and texture and feel, I think silicone is superior. If you squeeze a silicone implant, it just feels different than a saline implant. Now, granted, it doesn't feel quite as nice when it's in your hand because there's skin, there's muscle, and it's inside your body. So, overall, there's actually a small difference. But initially, silicone does tend to feel better. And long term, it will still give you a more natural feeling. And women really like that, especially their significant others really appreciate, and they like that sort of that natural feel.

As far as, you know, about five, ten years ago, little bit longer than that, there was a scare with the use of silicone. However, all of that was disproven. And the FDA did a whole bunch of studies on it and found that there was no correlation between auto-immune disease and use of silicone. But not only that, the manufacturers-- this is now a fourth- or a fifth-generation silicone implant. And the silicone is so cohesive now, that if I were to cut this and hold it upside down, none of the gel would actually leak out.

So, a lot of women have that fear, what happens if I got into a car wreck or if I fell down and the implant ruptured? There is still a chance that that could happen, albeit low. However, with the new generation of gel implants now, it's such a small chance that the gel would actually leak out.
